It looks like Elizabeth and Lucas might still end up together on Hallmark's When Calls the Heart.

This popular melodrama has been on the air for nearly a decade, following the story of Elizabeth, a young woman from high society who relocates to the Canadian frontier to teach at a local school. From the beginning, the writers have never disappointed the audience. That is, until the current season 10.

The thing is, fans were really looking forward to seeing Elizabeth and Lucas's wedding for two seasons. However, the prospect of the lovers finally exchanging rings and vows came to an abrupt halt in the show's most recent episode. Elizabeth ended things with Lucas after he revealed his plans to run for governor.

Disappointing Twist

Fans were upset when Elizabeth, who had previously been portrayed as brave, decided to end her relationship with Lucas, a man she was supposedly in love with, out of fear of stepping out of her comfort zone. That seemed completely out of character for her. However, while fans were criticizing the writers for ruining the beloved pairing, some unexpected news arrived: Elizabeth and Lucas might not be breaking up after all.

It was announced that Chris McNally, who plays Lucas on the show, will be returning for the upcoming Season 11. That suggests his character might not be moving to Capitol City after all.

However, fans are still convinced that he will become the next governor but will stay in Hope Valley for some reason. After all, the writers hold all the power when it comes to what happens in the story, so they can easily find a way to make Lucas' presence in the city plausible.

Fans' Change of Heart

While fans adored Lucas and Elizabeth as a couple for a few seasons, their opinion shifted when Elizabeth refused to support him in achieving his dream. The fandom's consensus now is that Elizabeth does not deserve Lucas. If the writers attempted to bring the two back together now, there would be major backlash from fans. But the fact that Lucas isn't going anywhere is generally seen as good news.
