Taylor Swift Snubbed: The Real Reason She Was Banned from Twilight
Fifteen years later, it seems like a missed opportunity, much to the chagrin of both Swifties and Twihards.
Taylor Swift is arguably one of the most influential artists of our time. Millions of fans worldwide have memorised songs from her albums, which are purchased in staggering numbers every day.
The singer began her career as a teenager, conquered the country scene, and is now one of the biggest pop divas, skillfully blending genres from synth-pop to alternative rock.
It's no wonder she's constantly in the public eye; people follow her personal relationships as well as her other creative endeavours, including filmmaking. Speaking of movies, she almost appeared in the iconic vampire saga once, and oh boy, what a shame! It would have been an epic moment for the two fandoms!
Yes, dear Swifties, you heard it right: she could have appeared in Twilight! Regarding her career in the film industry, Swift was already involved in Disney projects at the time, appearing in movies with the Jonas Brothers and Hannah Montana, so a cameo role was nothing new for her. She was also looking forward to appearing in the film adaptation of Melissa Rosenberg's novels.
As it turned out, there was a good chance she would appear in the second instalment of the series, The Twilight Saga: New Moon. The film's director, Chris Weitz, told The Twilight Effect podcast that he was ready to invite the singer but dropped the idea at the last minute.
According to him, Taylor Swift was a Twihard herself at the time, and the director's agent, who also happened to be Swift's agent, insisted that she take part in the movie.
And even though Weitz was initially okay with it, he changed his mind.
'The moment that Taylor Swift, like, walks onto the screen, for about five minutes, nobody is going to be able to process anything,' he explained.
Unlike many of the actors in the movie, who were already beloved by fans but just starting out in their careers, Taylor Swift was already a successful public figure in 2008, with two albums topping the Billboard 200. Not surprisingly, Weitz didn't want a cameo by such a famous performer to distract audiences from the action.
However, he said he regrets it now because he 'could have been hanging out with Taylor Swift.' Well, we live in a reality of our own making. Unfortunately, Swifty does not always equal Twihard.
