'Tatty' Confirmed: Taylor Swift Dating Matty Healy Sends Fans into a Frenzy
Fans are disappointed in Swift's new boyfriend.
The news that Taylor Swift had broken up with her boyfriend of six years, Joe Alwyn, split the world in two earlier this month, with one part of the fandom mourning the loss of such a beautiful couple and the other cheering that the singer was once again free to date whoever she wanted.
Unfortunately, it looks like the star has managed to pick the worst possible person to date — fans are massively angry that a cultural icon like Swift has decided to spend her time with someone like The 1975's lead singer Matty Healy.
While Healy is certainly a hugely influential person in his own right, with his band considered to be one of the most prominent indie groups of the 2010s, he has made a number of insensitive comments over the years, which led to people accusing him of sexism and racism. Of course, the singer's personal qualities and behavior in a relationship are not known at all, but fans are still quite bummed that Swift is putting her entire image on the line for Healy.
'That's disappointing, obviously I can't blame Taylor for what others do. But this is her actively choosing to have someone who says these things publicly in her personal life [...] This is a weird move for someone who has been PR-conscious most of their career,' one fan pointed out.
While it's clear that most people don't approve of Taylor Swift's new boyfriend, others believe that the star totally deserves to choose a person she loves on her own, without consulting her fans or representatives. Some fans even go so far as to argue that because of Healy's problematic comments in the past, it's clear that the two are truly in love because Swift would never risk her entire career over a passing romantic interest.
In any case, many fans are now condemning Swift for dating Healy, and it looks like a massive backlash against the singer is in the works.
'This is such a weird move for her and makes me feel fine that I'm not seeing the Eras tour now. I would feel ick about it right now,' another fan said.
