Fans hated the last season for a reason.

When it premiered in 2020, Sweet Magnolias seemed like a worthy contender for the title of the best Netflix melodrama, which could possibly surpass Virgin River's popularity. The story of three longtime friends juggling work and family was quite relatable for audiences, ensuring decent viewership for Sweet Magnolias' first two seasons.

However, the series' rise to fame was halted with the recent release of Season 3, which has been called the worst chapter in Sweet Magnolia's history, causing thousands of fans to stop caring about the show altogether.

The first two seasons painted the characters as down-to-earth and likable personalities, but the third installment drastically changed that, making not only the main trio, but actually the entire cast of characters, look completely unrelatable and silly. As a result, Sweet Magnolias began to feel like a cheap soap, and most viewers hated the change, accusing the writers of ruining the beloved story.

The biggest gripe fans had with the recently released season is the way the characters talked to each other, with many saying the dialogues sounded like they were created by a machine rather than a human team of writers. Even the teenage characters were made to talk like adults, and in general, all the conversations started to feel unnatural, like literary fiction.

5 Reasons Sweet Magnolias Is the Show We'll Keep Watching (And You Should, Too)

'They butchered this show so much, lol. Why are all of the dialogues so unrealistic?! I get that there are bound to be heartfelt moments of open, honest, near-perfect communication, but it was way too much,' a fan complained on Reddit, 'People! Don't! Speak! Like! This! Let alone teenagers! It's like they are making them do big mistakes for the drama, but in all other scenes their behavior is just way too perfect, which is so unrealistic.'

Besides all the other shortcomings of the recent season, this superficiality became the last straw that made many fans turn away from the once-brilliant series. No one wants to follow the lives of mannequins pretending to be real people.

And with such inferior material to work with, it's no wonder that none of the actors on the show managed to delight viewers, as they were forced to repeat the banal and contrived words provided by the writers. Yikes.
