Marvel's most chaotic crossover just got even messier.

After weeks of speculation, new reports suggest Ryan Reynolds may not appear in Avengers: Doomsday as Deadpool, despite earlier teases that had fans convinced otherwise.

The confusion began when Reynolds shared a red-styled Avengers: Doomsday logo on Instagram, which many took as confirmation of his return.

But according to Deadline, Reynolds hasn't been spotted on the London set and "he's not going to be in the film at all — nor is he going to be in Avengers: Secret Wars."

The outlet claims the Instagram post was never meant as a clue, but a joke: Reynolds saw a fan edit of the logo and decided to repost it "just having some fun."

Not everyone is convinced. The Hollywood Reporter and The Wrap are both reporting the opposite — that Deadpool is indeed part of the Phase 6 lineup and will appear in Doomsday. The mixed signals have left fans divided, with some calling it classic Marvel misdirection and others taking Deadline's word that Reynolds is sitting this one out.

What isn't in doubt is that Doomsday already has one of the busiest superhero casts Marvel has ever assembled:

  • Anthony Mackie as the new Captain America
  • Chris Hemsworth returning as Thor
  • Letitia Wright back as Shuri
  • The full Thunderbolts roster
  • The Fantastic Four debuting in the MCU
  • X-Men icons including Patrick Stewart's Charles Xavier, Ian McKellen's Magneto, and Alan Cumming's Nightcrawler

That's a lot of capes in one movie, with or without Deadpool's wisecracks.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters on December 18 next year. Until Marvel makes an official announcement, fans will be left wondering whether Reynolds will actually crash the party — or if this is the rare MCU event that goes ahead without him.
