Survivor 44 Fans Call For Updating Swimming Suit Policy on the Show
Fans aren't sure why the producers do not allow swimsuits on Survivor.
While Survivor is undoubtedly one of the most popular reality shows out there, it has faced some controversy in recent years, as the idea of putting unprepared contestants on a desolate island and forcing them to survive on their own doesn't sit well in the current era of conscious television.
The show's producers are much more concerned with the safety of the contestants now than they used to be, but they still have to sell the idea that the participants are surviving — not vacationing — which means they have to look as ragged as possible.
In the early seasons of Survivor, female contestants often participated in the water-based challenges in swimsuits, which never really broke the immersion, since taking a swimsuit to a desert island seems like a pretty good idea. However, the later installments saw the contestants wear their regular bras and underwear, all in the name of so-called realism, and this surprised many of the show's fans.
Wearing underwear for a challenge is definitely a major inconvenience, as a professional swimsuit allows the body to move much faster in the water.
Fans have been hoping that the producers would change this odd policy for several seasons, and the current Season 44 actually seems to be doing much better in this regard.
It looks like the show's creators decided to change their minds after two contestants contracted a serious infection from wearing the same underwear for a long time. The producers were basically forced to implement the new rule to keep the cast members safe, but fans claim there's still a lot of work to be done.
While we saw more participants wear professional swimsuits this season, some of the survivors still participate in water challenges in their underwear, and this makes fans feel uneasy.
'I feel so bad for the girls who only have wire bras because that must be so uncomfortable the entire time. I think they've gotten better in recent seasons but at least give everyone a sports bra that they can realistically do challenges in,' one Redditor said, summing up the audience's general option.
Hopefully, the future season of Survivor will find a way to resolve this health and safety issue.
The next episode of Season 44 will air on May 10, 2023.
