Mark Hamill just put the Luke Skywalker comeback rumors to bed, telling CBS Mornings he has no plans to return to a galaxy far, far away.

If you were holding out hope for more Luke Skywalker, Mark Hamill just poured a bucket of cold space-milk on that. He sounds ready to leave the lightsaber on the rack and let the character rest.

Where Hamill stands now

On CBS Mornings, Hamill was asked the question he can probably recite in his sleep: would he ever come back as Luke? His answer was pretty clear. After popping up briefly in Episodes 7 and 9 and doing the heavy lifting in The Last Jedi, he feels like Luke's story is finished and he is at peace with that.

"I think I’ve had my time."

He pointed out that the only sequel where Luke is actually part of the narrative is Episode 8, and that film deliberately closes the book on him. The guy literally fades out after projecting himself across the galaxy to save the Resistance. Hamill called it, with a grin, an 'overdose of the Force' — a funny way of saying that using that much power cooked him. He also joked that if Force overuse was lethal, maybe Obi-Wan or Yoda could have dropped a warning label somewhere along the way.

Quick refresher on Luke's sequel-trilogy presence

  • Episode 7: The Force Awakens — cameo
  • Episode 8: The Last Jedi (2017) — the actual storyline for Luke and his exit
  • Episode 9: The Rise of Skywalker — another cameo

Why he is fine walking away

Hamill said that not only did Episode 8 feel like the right time to go, but it also gave him what he considers a good exit — and he values a graceful goodbye over hanging around just because he could. This tracks even if you remember how publicly uneasy he was about Luke's choices in The Last Jedi; he has been candid over the years that he did not love every turn the character took.

So... no more Luke, even with more Star Wars coming?

With chatter continuing that Disney wants to bring back Daisy Ridley's Rey Skywalker, Hamill still seems content to sit this era out. Translation: if you are waiting on another Luke return (digital or otherwise), probably do not. He sounds done — and honestly, that exit on Ahch-To was a pretty tidy curtain call.
