The iconic drama is now a reality competition.

Since Squid Game remains the most popular show in Netflix's collection, it's little surprise that the streaming behemoth decided to leverage its success, aiming to generate more revenue from the show while the second season is under development. In fact, Netflix's executives have conceived a rather ingenious idea - Squid Game in real life! Indeed, Netflix announced Squid Game: The Challenge some time ago, and fans were excited to see 456 real contestants vying for the cash prize.

The reality show's producers went to great lengths to replicate the games and designs of the original series, as demonstrated by the newly released trailer for The Challenge, which had some fans finding it hard to distinguish between the two shows.

No Deaths

It goes without saying all of the challenges that the 456 contestants will face are entirely safe, and nobody will meet the same fatal fate as in the original scripted show. However, most of the games will closely mirror the original series, including the iconic Red Light, Green Light, and Glass Bridge.

Just like in the original Korean series, contestants will be competing for an extraordinarily large prize - $4.56 million, the biggest prize in television history. Unsurprisingly, people from all over the world chose to test their luck in the competition and traveled to the UK to participate in the filming.

Release Date

While the release of the second season of Squid Game remains a mystery, Netflix decided to delight fans by announcing the premiere of The Challenge much earlier than initially expected.

The 10-episode reality series will be released on Netflix on November 22, 2023, almost exactly two years after the debut of the first season of Squid Game.

While the premise of the reality show seems incredibly enticing, only time will tell if it can become the most-watched show in Netflix's catalog and whether it can genuinely rival the iconic scripted series that inspired it.
