Squid Game Season 2 Release Window Gets Disappointing Update
It looks like fans will have to wait a little longer to see the second season.
Back in 2021, Netflix's Squid Game became the most talked-about show on the planet, breaking every possible streaming record and making viewers hope that they'll once see the story continued into a second season. While the streaming giant had been tight-lipped about the show's future in the following two years, Netflix's recent Tudum event revealed that Squid Game Season 2 is very much a reality.
After revealing the names of new cast members for the upcoming season, Netflix representatives announced that director Hwang Dong-hyuk is ready to begin filming the next installment of his hit series this July. However, with the production scheduled to take ten full months, it looks like the second season will most likely arrive in August 2024 at the earliest, which is a long time to wait for most fans.
But Netflix and the director's work ethics are not to blame for such a long waiting time. As it turns out, the director plans to shoot both Season 2 and Season 3 at the same time, so we should expect only a short hiatus between the two seasons.
Netflix's producers are well aware that fans have been desperate to see the Squid Game story continued ever since the show premiered two years ago, so now they'll do everything in their power to make sure the new season hits the screens as soon as possible.
Of course, the three-year hiatus is tough, but we are willing to wait this long, provided that we'll see the third installment come out shortly after the second one.
All in all, the fact that Netflix didn't rush the director to make a second season right after the show's success in 2021 proves that the producers are invested in the project and don't treat Squid Game as just another cash cow. Also, considering that the budgets for the upcoming seasons will be much bigger, it is only natural that the preparations for filming took so long, and we can totally expect Squid Game Seasons 2 and 3 to be even better than the first one.
