Spoilers: What Happens to Bree and Roger's Son Jem in Outlander Books?
Will they manage to rescue the boy?
Starz's Outlander is one of the most popular fantasy series on the air right now, but the fact that the network has once again disappointed fans by splitting the current Season 7 into two parts isn't doing the show any favors.
Of course, people are disappointed at the idea of waiting more than half a year to see the beloved characters again. The wait is especially frustrating because the writers have left so many cliffhangers in the first part of the season, with Claire and Jamie finally traveling back to Scotland and Bree and Roger's son being kidnapped by Bree's co-worker Rob.
Fortunately, we have Diana Gabaldon's original books to get some answers without having to survive another cruel period of Droughtlander. And as a fan, you should be glad to know that the future of young Jem is one of the things the author thoroughly explained in her novels.
When Rob finds out that Bree and her husband are somehow connected to time travel, he decides to kidnap Jem and travel back in time to find the buried Jacobite gold. Even though this plan sounds like a total disaster, Rob and his accomplices even kill a security guard to achieve their goal.
As revealed in the books, Bree and Roger manage to trap the criminals in Lallybroch, rescue Jem, and hide in the woods to protect themselves from Rob and his men. But the villains have no intention of stopping and continue to stalk the family until their final showdown in Lallybroch, where Roger defeats Rob and allows Jem and Bree to escape to America.
With Roger seemingly gone, his wife and son travel back in time. Luckily, they discover Roger in 18th-century Scotland and reunite as a family again for the first time in months.
Perhaps these twists and turns may sound a bit confusing, but the main takeaway for Outlander fans is that Jem is perfectly fine in the original books. Well, so far at least — because Gabaldon is still finishing her novel series, and no one besides the author knows what the future holds for the beloved characters.
