The show is finally over.

Without a doubt, the recent seasons of Riverdale have been a significant letdown for fans of the once-acclaimed series, as the overall quality of writing and acting has noticeably declined since Season 3. Nevertheless, it appears that series creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has regained his footing just in time for the show's finale, providing fans with an ending that, while not the most original or surprising, was certainly satisfying.

Rather than shocking fans with a major twist, Riverdale's final episode gradually revealed how all the characters would live out their lives, even confirming two couples as the endgame.

While some fans found the slow-paced episode somewhat tedious, others were thrilled to discover their favourite characters' lives beyond Riverdale. Although the finale wasn't without its heart-wrenching moments, most of the extended storylines were actually quite happy, and the fact that two beloved couples remained together until their eventual deaths brought joy to many fans.

For starters, fans of Choni can rest easy, as the series finale revealed that Cheryl and Toni had relocated to the West together, living as a family and pursuing careers in art and activism. Despite the challenges faced by LGBTQ+ people over the past century, Cheryl and Toni managed to have a son together, whom they named after their hometown - Dale.

Another LGBTQ+ couple from the show also received a happy ending, as the finale confirmed that Kevin and Clay were an endgame. The pair moved to New York together and established a home in Harlem, where Clay became a professor and founded an off-Broadway theatre company. The two lived in harmony until Kevin's 82nd birthday when he passed away. According to Jughead, Clay died just weeks after the love of his life left this world.

Although the finale was intended to be a feel-good episode, some fans still felt somewhat bittersweet about the endgame romances, as the notion that neither Archie nor Jughead found their life partners among the girls of Riverdale was slightly heartbreaking.

But on a brighter note, the finale did reveal that Archie, Jughead, Betty, and Veronica were a foursome at some point during their teenage years, and that’s a good thing, isn’t it?
