This character made fans really angry.

Since the debut of Virgin River on Netflix in 2019, fans have been keenly following the lives of the residents of the titular town, hailing the show as one of the top melodramas currently available on streaming. However, the show has flaws, with the subpar development of supporting characters and their storylines being the most glaring. It seems the recently released Season 5 has exacerbated this issue, with the newly introduced characters rapidly becoming the most disliked in just a few episodes.

While characters like Charmaine and Hope have been vexing fans since the first season, Season 5's new addition, Ava, almost instantly managed to surpass them as the most annoying character on Virgin River.

Missed Opportunity

Initially, fans liked Ava, a cheerful and quirky woman who became the show's second LGBTQ+ character. However, as they learned more about her, they quickly realized how tedious and grating she was. Fans argued that the writers didn't make any effort to make her character engaging, instead using her as nothing but a plot device.

'Her purpose was to be there so that Mel could save her during the fire, as well as to talk about the endometriosis condition. I am a woman with kids, and do care about female issues, but is that the crux of the show?' a fan wondered.

Ava's Sole Purpose

The fact that the writers denied Ava the opportunity to become an engaging character greatly disappointed fans, especially considering the positive representation she could have contributed to the show.

Some fans are convinced that the writers introduced Ava to Virgin River solely to pair her with the show's other LGBTQ+ character, Hanna. However, this potential storyline has not gained any traction with fans.

'I definitely feel they brought in another LGBTQ+ character, so Hannah has a love interest. I liked Hannah's small scenes. But I don't want her with Ava lol. Something just didn't click with Ava for me. And I was hoping she'd leave with Tara,' another fan said.
