The popular actor will surprise his fans next year.

Without a doubt, Sam Heughan's great acting and handsome looks are one of the main reasons why so many viewers tune in to watch Outlander, and with the show coming to an end in just one and a half seasons, Starz producers are clearly worried about the future of their network.

Luckily, Heughan is keen to continue working with Starz and has signed on to play one of the lead roles in the upcoming racy show The Couple Next Door, which could easily become one of the biggest series of the coming year.

The new show centers on a couple who move into an upscale neighborhood and find themselves entangled in a web of lies and deceit. Even though their close neighbors, traffic cop Danny (Heughan) and his wife Becka (Jessica De Gouw), seem like a perfectly normal couple, time will prove just how perverse they really are.

After reading the official synopsis, fans began to suspect that Heughan will play a swinger in the upcoming show, and such an idea certainly pleased a lot of people.

Only six episodes long, The Couple Next Door will premiere much earlier in the UK than in the US. As it was co-created with British Channel 4, the show will hit the UK screens this fall, while American fans of Heughan will have to wait until 2024 to see the Scottish stallion in his new role.

Considering that Part 2 of Outlander's seventh season is also expected to premiere in 2024, it looks like next year will give us enough projects starring Heughan, which certainly sounds exciting to his massive army of fans.

And besides, with Heughan apparently still under consideration to play the next iteration of James Bond, the actor may well launch himself as a true A-lister next year. But before that happens, The Couple Next Door could earn him some awards next season, which is something Heughan has probably been dreaming of since landing the role of Jamie Fraser back in 2014.

Starz has yet to announce an official release date for The Couple Next Door.
