Sophie's Actress Ethnicity is One of Bridgerton Season 3's Key Questions
The beloved character has yet to be cast.
Netflix's Bridgerton is obviously one of the most popular shows out there right now, as the first two stellar seasons of the Regency-era romantic drama immediately proved that there's still a market for period dramas. Shonda Rhimes really nailed the atmosphere of the original Julia Quinn series of novels, and even though some of the storylines were changed for the live-action adaptation, even fans of the original books admit that Netflix's show is a superior version of the story.
However, fans were still a bit upset with Rhimes when it was announced that the upcoming Season 3 would focus on Penelope and Colin, when the third book in the cycle actually followed the love affair between Benedict and Sophie.
The Missing Lady
Although Benedict is already an established character, as this heartthrob has been enchanting fans since Season 1, his future wife, Sophie, has yet to be introduced to viewers, which may explain why Rhimes decided to postpone her season and choose Penelope and Colin, as all fans know them perfectly.
However, given that Sophie was one of the best characters in the original books, fans can't wait to see her in live action and are wondering which actress will play the heroine. And while Sophie was white in the books, fans are fully expecting her to be played by a South Asian actress, as diversity in casting has already become a huge part of the show's success.
'It would make sense that they make her a different ethnicity as a whole since that's on brand for the show. I've adored all the ethnicity changes in the show so far, especially Kate. Making her Indian and making her culture important to her was so well done. I hope they do that for Benedict's partner as well,' a fan noted.
A big surprise
However, not all fans are really excited about which actress will play Sophie, as they wished to see Benedict dating a man instead of a woman, as the original novels seemingly teased that about one character. So maybe Sophie will be played by a man?
'This would be one of the few Bridgerton sibs where this would actually make sense. Not just because Benedict has had mad chemistry with both men and women so far but also because of how his book ends. I certainly wouldn't mind but I am not sure if the author would be on board,' a fan noted.
