Sinners Gets 17 Critics Choice Awards Nominations

We have ourselves a race. The Critics Choice Awards just dropped their 2026 nominations, and a couple of heavy hitters are out front with a ridiculous lead. It’s a big, busy slate this year, with a few eyebrow-raising category choices and a ton of first-time matchups. Here’s the lay of the land before the show hits Santa Monica in January.

Quick scoreboard: Ryan Coogler’s 'Sinners' goes in as the juggernaut with 17 nominations, including Best Picture, Director, and Actor for Michael B. Jordan. Paul Thomas Anderson’s 'One Battle After Another' isn’t far behind with 14, including Best Picture, Director, and Actor for Leonardo DiCaprio. Netflix’s Guillermo del Toro-directed 'Frankenstein' and Chloé Zhao’s 'Hamnet' both stack 11 nods and also made Best Picture.

On the TV side: Netflix’s 'Adolescence' leads with six nominations, while 'Nobody Wants This' lands five. 'All Her Fault,' 'The Diplomat,' 'Death by Lightning,' 'Ghosts,' 'The Pitt,' 'Hacks,' and 'Severance' all score four apiece. If that sounds spread out… it is. Lots of shows in the mix, not a lot of runaway favorites.

A few quick takeaways

'Sinners' going 17-deep is a flex, but the fields are crowded. PTA vs. Coogler vs. del Toro vs. Zhao is exactly the kind of chaos you want in Director. The crafts races are stacked with big swings too: 'F1' muscling into below-the-line categories, 'Wicked: For Good' popping up all over production design and hair/makeup, and yes, 'Superman' in VFX. On TV, the wealth is spread enough that we could see a lot of different shows walk away happy.
