"Should've Picked Julia": Virgin River Fans Are So Over Preacher & Kaia Drama

Needless to say, Virgin River is one of the most popular romantic melodramas on the air right now, as it was recently revealed that more than one million households in the US watched Season 5 in just four days since its release. And while the central love story between LA nurse Mel and ex-Marine Jack proved to be just as exciting in the latest episode as it had been throughout the entire previous season, it looks like the supporting love stories were a bit of a bummer for fans.

While Connor and Muriel suddenly starting to date was quite unexpected in the worst possible way, another romance actually took the lead as the worst in season 5 - that between John 'Preacher' Middleton and Kaia.

An unlucky man

While Jack's friend from the military looked like a pretty exciting guy, Preacher started to feel a bit redundant after his first appearance in Season 1. This tough guy with a kind heart seemed like the perfect friend for Jack and Paige Lassiter, but he still felt out of place in Virgin River.

As we all know, Virgin River is a romantic show, and Preacher is incredibly bad at romance. The writers have tried to set him up with numerous women over the course of the show, and each time the fans have objected, arguing that actor Colin Lawrence has not been able to create any chemistry with the women his character has dated.

'He’s not natural in romantic scenes. Always comes across as a bit awkward. He’s much better in scenes with other characters like Connie, Jack or even Hannah, the waitress – they have great chemistry. I would even rather see him arguing with Brady than watching love scenes with a romantic partner!’ a fan noted.

Will Kaia fix him?

While many people were happy to see Kaia in Preacher's life in Season 5, others were pretty sure that the two would be gone by next season, as Lawrence was just as awkward around her as always. However, maybe the two will surprise us in the second part of season 5, which will be released on November 30th.

'Preacher has had zero chemistry so far with any of his women. Maybe he and Kaia will get better with time but when I think of them, all I see is those dirty ass boots on the bar counter. I can't unsee it,' a fan said.
