Severance Season 2 Not Coming Anytime Soon: Expect a Delay Till 2025
The beloved show is in trouble.
Back in 2022, the whole world was hooked on Severance, an Apple TV+ show directed by Ben Stiller. The story of labor inequality with a sci-fi twist became an instant hit, earning its creators a slew of awards and building anticipation for the second season.
And while the release of the next chapter of Severance was slated for early 2024, it looks like the show will be significantly delayed, and here's why.
The first reason is the most obvious, as the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes have been wreaking havoc in Hollywood for a few months now, delaying the production of many anticipated shows and movies, including Severance. Yes, Apple TV+ has officially stated that filming on Severance has been halted due to the strikes, and there's no word yet on when production will resume.
But even without the strikes, Severance was in big trouble earlier this year when co-showrunners Dan Erickson and Mark Friedman started a huge feud during the production of Season 2. Apparently, the creators hated working with each other, and both threatened to leave the project for good.
Following this, producer and director Ben Stiller invited House of Cards creator Beau Willimon to assist the team and help them plot the course of Seasons 2 and 3 while the co-showrunners were still fighting.
With all of these issues in mind, it looks like the release of Severance Season 2 would have been postponed even without the strikes, but they certainly made things a lot worse.
Previously, the series would have been delayed by half a year at best, but now analysts are sure that viewers shouldn't expect to see another season until at least 2025, which is a huge bummer.
Sadly, it looks like the already planned Season 3 might be canceled due to this delay, as it would be almost impossible to keep the fans' interest high after making them wait three full years for a new season. Given the troubled production and inflated budget, the next chapter of Severance may flop pretty badly when it finally premieres in a couple of years' time.
