Scrubs Returns: Which Original Stars Are Scrubbing In for Season 10?
Scrubs is scrubbing back in for Season 10, and familiar faces are reporting for duty. With the revival nearing launch, the lineup of returning cast is finally set.
Scrubs is scrubbing back in for a real Season 10, the kind fans have been waiting for. The new run pops the hood on Sacred Heart again, jumps the story forward in a big way, and quietly sets aside that polarizing ninth-season experiment. Here is who is back, how far the time jump goes, and the little reunion details that made me smile.
The setup: 16 years after Season 8
The revival picks up 16 years after the proper Season 8 finale, effectively ignoring Season 9 for now. J.D. and Turk reunite at Sacred Heart after years apart. In the time since, Turk and Carla have four kids, while J.D. and Elliot have two. This run spans nine episodes and includes guest turns from Neil Flynn as the Janitor and Christa Miller as Jordan. Two episodes will premiere back-to-back on Wednesday, February 25, on ABC.
Who is back, and how often
- Series regulars: Zach Braff as Dr. John "J.D." Dorian, Sarah Chalke as Dr. Elliot Reid, Donald Faison as Dr. Christopher Turk
- Recurring this season: Judy Reyes as Nurse Carla Espinosa (4 episodes), John C. McGinley as Dr. Perry Cox (3 episodes)
- Guest appearances: Neil Flynn as the Janitor, Christa Miller as Jordan
- Season 11 tease: If the show gets renewed, Ken Jenkins is set to return as Dr. Bob Kelso
About that Season 9
Quick refresher: Scrubs premiered October 2, 2001, ran for eight seasons, and wrapped on May 6, 2009 with what many consider the perfect goodbye. Later that year came Season 9, a companion-style spin on the show set more than a year after that finale, with only a few original cast members sticking around. It did not land with fans. The 2026 revival nods to reality by simply stepping around it for now, but the door is not locked.
"I would do it in a heartbeat because they are such great performers," co-creator and Emmy-winning writer Bill Lawrence said when asked about bringing back the Season 9 cast (Eliza Coupe, Michael Mosley, Dave Franco, and Kerry Bishe).
"I am a TV fan, I enjoy watching Scrubs uber fans' brains melt a little bit. So, I would be open to anyone coming back. Just this first year, nine episodes is such a tiny cup of coffee, we jammed in everybody we possibly could," Lawrence added.
The Kelso plan
Ken Jenkins is not in the nine-episode revival slate, but the plan is already on paper if the show continues.
"Dr. Kelso will be back next year. It just did not work out this year, but it will next year," Lawrence said.
Bottom line: Scrubs returns Wednesday, February 25 with two episodes on ABC, reunites J.D. and Turk where they belong, and sprinkles in enough familiar faces to make the wait feel worth it. Season 11 could bring even more of the old guard if the show gets the pickup.
