The fans would surely have enjoyed every second of it.

ITV's adaptation of Jane Austen's unfinished novel was a hit when it first premiered in 2019. However, it was only during Season 2, which aired in 2022, that the show truly came into its own and became a major sensation.

While the second season featured major improvements across the board, including in writing, costume design, and direction, it was Ben Lloyd-Hughes' portrayal of Alexander Colbourne that truly resonated with fans and took the show’s narrative to the next level. The actor's appearance and genuine dedication to his craft made him a perfect choice for the role of a 19th-century romantic.

The producers saw Lloyd-Hughes' potential and invited him back for Sanditon's third season, offering him even more screen time than before. Yet, it would appear that some of his scenes were cut before the show was broadcast, and the omission of one particular scene is likely to cause major consternation to many period romance fans.

According to Lloyd-Hughes, he had filmed a scene echoing Colin Firth's iconic wet white shirt moment from the 1995 BBC adaptation of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. While the scene was lots of fun to shoot, it was eventually left out of the final cut.

‘There was a scene that I did that apparently has been cut and it was me walking through the woods. I've got you a costume that we've gone full Colin Firth wet shirt. It was a really lovely scene to film; it was that weather where it's just been raining but the sun is out. I'm sad that that's been cut because as a character it felt really poignant. But these things happen because of time,’ Lloyd-Hughes explained.

Regrettably, fans missed the opportunity to see Lloyd-Hughes walk across the British countryside in a drenched shirt, a sight that could have been iconic.

Perhaps the producers felt that such a scene might be perceived as mere fan service and opted against it to avoid any potential backlash. Yet, it remains a mystery as to who they thought might have taken offence at such an enchanting spectacle.
