Sam Heughan Doing His Best to Push For a 'Different' Ending to Outlander
The fan-favorite star wants another ending for his show.
Starz's beloved fantasy show about two time-traveling lovers has been a huge hit since it premiered in 2011, and even though more than a decade has passed, fans still don't have a clue about how Outlander will end. The thing is, author Diana Gabaldon hasn't finished her original book series yet, so no one, aside from the writer herself and a few producers, really knows anything about the ultimate fate of Jamie and Claire.
Well, it looks like Sam Heughan managed to learn something about the upcoming ending, and it looks like he didn't like the way Gabaldon treated his character.
With just one episode to go until the mid-season finale of Season 7, viewers are already dreading another extended period of Droughtlander, as the remaining episodes have yet to be filmed and the crew can't start working due to the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. But it seems that fans have something much worse to worry about, as the current finale idea is less than satisfactory, according to Sam Heughan.
In a recent interview, the actor revealed that he is going to push for a different ending, even though he's pretty sure the producers won't listen to him and go with the author's vision instead.
'Whatever the writers do, I guess we will find out. I don't think it is ever going to be satisfactory for everyone, but hopefully we can get to a place where at least our Outlander is told. It won't be the full book, but at least it's our story and it will hopefully give some sort of finality,' Heughan said.
Obviously, the actor has no intention of revealing the finale to fans right now, because even though he didn't like it, he can't deny viewers the chance to see it for themselves when the time comes. In the meantime, Heughan will surely do everything he can to preserve the show's legacy, including fighting for an ending that feels right for both Jamie and Claire.
Outlander Season 7 Episode 8 will premiere on Starz on August 11, 2023.
