The long-awaited finale has ruined the show.

After seven years on the air, The CW's Riverdale has finally concluded, with fans bidding farewell to Archie, Jughead, Betty, and the rest of the townspeople. While the show's quality had somewhat declined in recent seasons, the final episodes were still quite compelling.

Nevertheless, the overall structure of Riverdale's very last episode left fans wondering if series creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa had taken the easy way out.

Instead of surprising fans with a dramatic twist, the writers chose to dedicate the entire final episode to showing what happens to the characters after they leave Riverdale and carry on with their lives. Thanks to Jughead's narration, fans learned that Kevin and Clay move in together and enjoy a long and happy life, while Fangs tragically dies in a horrific car accident just weeks after his first tour.

And while it was great to catch up with the characters' lives post-Riverdale, some fans were disappointed by how safe and sweet the final episode ended up being. Practically every character gets a perfect future and a happy ending. Even though many characters end up dead in the end, they all pass away peacefully in old age and appear completely content with the lives they've had since leaving Riverdale.

'I think the finale is good on paper. But this feels like the easy way out. And I'm starting to get tired of these endings. Where you see their lives, they die, but no worries all the characters are in a happy afterlife in the end. It's getting old,' a fan explained.

It would appear that Riverdale repeated the same mistake that another iconic The CW show made in the past. We are talking about Supernatural, whose finale was completely ruined by the fact that even though Dean and Sam die in the end, they are shown having fun in heaven for some inexplicable reason.

People dislike these sorts of saccharine, feel-good endings because they just don't feel right and are a sign that the writers don't have the confidence to create a truly epic finale and instead hide in mediocrity to please the show's fans. It's a huge letdown.
