It looks like the show lost its fan base for good.

The CW's Riverdale proved to be one of the most popular shows of 2017, piquing the interest of millions of viewers thanks to its unique take on beloved teen characters and a much more gruesome tone than what was popular on network television at the time. But after two stellar seasons, the hit series veered off in the wrong direction, apparently trying to surprise fans by introducing new wacky ideas.

With most of them falling flat, people were not happy that their favorite show was being turned into a weird and uninspired teen extravaganza, and the current Season 7 just made matters much worse.

The current season was billed as the final one in Riverdale's history, so fans were fully expecting the creators to step up their game and give Archie and friends a proper send-off. However, it looks like the writers have better things to do than take care of their show, as Season 7 is already proving to be one of the most disappointing installments of the entire project.

While viewers were expecting a big mystery in the last chapter of Riverdale, the writers had a completely different idea. Instead, they decided to devote the entire season to romance, constantly changing the ships and trying to break up the characters at every appropriate and inappropriate opportunity.

Needless to say, fans are not okay with this, arguing that such a season might have been okay a few years ago, but the final installment should have been handled differently.

'I watched the show for pure entertainment and how far they are going to take it, but this season is such a slug, it would've been better if it was made in the earlier seasons, and the changing ships every two minutes. It is truly some fanfic writing at its best,' one fan summed up the common complaints.

Unfortunately, it feels like the beloved characters are not going to get the send-off they deserve, as the abysmal current season wastes too much time on unnecessary drama instead of wrapping up the story arcs in a reasonable manner.

Riverdale Season 7 Episode 18 will air on The CW on August 9, 2023.
