Fans hate the controversial finale.

After seven seasons and dozens of controversial moments, The CW's Riverdale is finally over.

But instead of praising the show, longtime fans are actually accusing creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa of ruining the whole project with his finale.

In its first few seasons, Riverdale was considered one of the best teen dramas on the air, but the show began to drop in quality with each new episode since Season 3. However, lots of fans continued to follow the series into the finale, hoping that a great resolution to the story could turn things upside down and redeem all of Riverdale's problems. But in reality, that did not happen.

The writers' decision to send Archie and his friends back to the 1950s for the final season and rewrite all of the events of the previous episodes was already controversial enough, but the fact that the finale failed to excite in any way cemented Riverdale's status as a huge flop.

Yep, They Really Went There: Riverdale Just Dropped the Foursome BombInstead of shocking viewers with some crazy twists, the writers decided to render the last episode of Riverdale as an introspective look at each character's future, revealing their fates beyond the events of the show. And while seeing Betty, Archie, and Jughead grow old might have sounded satisfying on paper, the end result turned out to be a huge bummer.

'That was the least satisfying ending I have ever witnessed from any show, ever. I already had hesitations for the setting being changed to the 50s, because to me, it felt like the last season should be a culmination of everything that had happened up till that point, tying up ends, etc.' a fan noted.

Moreover, the idea that the central love triangle between Archie, Betty, and Veronica would lead to absolutely nothing also made fans angry. Following that storyline for seven seasons just proved to be a total waste of time.

Fans also say that Archie himself was ruined as a character in the finale. According to them, this proved that Riverdale should have ended a long time ago instead of torturing viewers for so many seasons and then just leaving them without any kind of payoff.

'Archie's ending felt really strange and a bit of a 180 for him. That guy has spent the last six seasons trying to save Riverdale, this whole season they've been hammering the "this is the same character." [And yet], his ending was literally that he upped, moved and never looked back,' another fan commented.
