Reid’s Return for Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 2 Teased by Matthew Gray Gubler
The beloved actor may finally reprise his iconic role.
Without a doubt, CBS' Criminal Minds was one of the biggest and most popular primetime procedurals of the last decade, easily attracting millions of viewers on a weekly basis. However, with more than 20 episodes in a season, the production was hard on writers and actors alike, heading to the show's cancellation and quick continuation in the form of Criminal Minds: Evolution.
The first season of the sequel proved to be a huge hit with fans and critics, as the exciting new approach to storytelling and the return of beloved characters made Evolution an absolute joy to watch. One thing that bothered fans in the first season, however, was the absence of Matthew Gray Gubler's Dr. Reid.
The best among equals
Since the first season of Criminal Minds, Gubler's Reid has been one of the main reasons to watch the show, as this adorable goofball with a handsome face felt like a completely original character, without any analogues in similar crime shows.
However, fans were not really upset to hear that Gubler would not be joining Evolution, noting that the actor was probably too tired of playing the same character for well over a decade and needed some time away from Dr. Reid and his quirks. However, it looks like this idea was wrong after all.
The actor is ready
In one of his recent interviews, Gubler suddenly revealed that he decided to skip the first season of Evolution not because of fatigue, but because of other work commitments. Moreover, the actor added that he wants to return to the show as soon as possible because he really misses his co-stars and his character.
'I would be honored. I would absolutely love that. They did a newer spin-off of the show, but it was filming during a time when I was shooting something else. But I can't wait – hopefully it will soon work out,' Gubler said.
And with the second season of Evolution on hold due to the WGA strike, it's more than likely that Gubler will join the cast once filming resumes.
