The popular show teases fans with more waiting.

Considering that the hit Starz show Outlander premiered in 2014 but the current installment is only the seventh in the series' history, it's clear that the creators have always taken their time to make the project as good as possible, producing significantly less than ten seasons in a decade.

But as the quality of the show grew over time, thanks to Starz's refusal to rush the creative team, so did the frustration of viewers who had to wait for new episodes to come out for so long. This even led to fans coining the term 'Droughtlander' to refer to the long wait between Outlander seasons.

While the long-awaited seventh season finally arrived in June, fans are still getting a glimpse of the future Droughtlander, as it was revealed that Episode 8 will skip the current week and premiere on August 11 instead. But why?

Although Starz didn't give an official reason for the sudden shift, viewers were quick to note that Episode 8 will serve as the mid-season finale. This means that the producers are likely trying to create more suspense by forcing fans to wait a bit longer to get an update on Claire and Jamie's lives.

'Dammit, it's been a slow and annoying day and I was telling myself just to do all the things that needed done because I'd have Outlander for a reward tonight,' one fan complained.

However, while fans are excited to see the midseason finale in just one week, some of them are actually quite upset about Starz's plan to release the current installment in two chunks, with Episode 8 serving as the last of the first half of the season. Yes, the network is planning to premiere the next half of the season much later, revealing that fans will have to wait until at least 2024 for Episode 9.

Needless to say, people are disappointed with this approach, arguing that they don't deserve another Droughtlander just months after the beloved show was finally given back to them.

But sadly, it looks like the producers know better how to approach the release of their show, and given the fact that Outlander has been on the air for almost a decade, they may actually be right to split the current season in two.
