Prison Break Reboot Star Unveils Ambitious Three-Season Arc at Hulu
Prison Break reboot star Emily Browning just dropped a major Hulu update — and confirmed exactly how many seasons are planned.
Prison Break is gearing up for another run, but this time it is not chasing the Scofield/Burrows saga. Hulu has a new take in motion, and the person at the center of it just signaled that things are moving along.
The setup
Emily Browning is leading the reboot as Cassidy Collins, an ex-soldier who signs on as a corrections officer at one of America's deadliest prisons. Why volunteer for that? She's trying to help someone she loves on the inside. It's a clean-angle premise that keeps the stakes personal without rehashing old blueprints.
Same universe, new faces
This is not a continuation of Michael and Lincoln's story, but it lives in the same world as the original series. Think new characters, new playbook, familiar DNA.
How we got here
It has been more than 20 years since the original Prison Break premiered on Fox. That first run went four seasons, then popped back up for a fifth season in 2017. Nearly a decade later, the franchise is getting a fresh start from Elgin James, the co-creator of Mayans M.C. The project landed a pilot order in December 2024 and expanded to a full season at Hulu in 2025. The team is in active development right now, and Browning recently teased that they have plans she's excited about — specifics stayed under wraps, but momentum sounds real.
Cast so far
- Emily Browning as Cassidy Collins
- Lukas Gage (Smile 2)
- Drake Rodger (The Winchesters)
- Clayton Cardenas (Mayans M.C.)
- JR Bourne (Teen Wolf)
- Georgie Flores (Famous in Love)
- Myles Bullock (Runaways)
Bottom line: same universe, different crew, and a lead character with a clear, messy motive. If the show leans into that personal angle, this could feel like Prison Break without just Xeroxing the original.
