The popular character actor had some interesting roles over the years.

While the name James Lance was completely unknown to the vast majority of Americans, Lance was already a popular actor in the UK even before his stint as the beloved journalist Trent Crimm on Ted Lasso. He began his career in 1991, but it took the actor almost three decades to really make it big in the industry.

Of course, that doesn't mean that Lance didn't have any work to do during that time, as some of his episodic appearances in TV shows and films made him quite a respectable character actor. Here are James Lance's five best roles before Ted Lasso.

Being Human (2008–2013)

The BBC show about a vampire, a ghost, and a werewolf trying to live together under the same roof was a big hit in the UK, and a large number of interesting episodic characters was one of the reasons for that. In Season 4, Lance played a ghost whose super-nice personality made him a rather unlikely villain.

Moving Wallpaper (2008–2009)

While this show about a production team working on a soap opera is largely forgotten today, James Lance really shined in it, portraying Tom Warren, one of the show's main characters. If you want to watch something cozy yet thought-provoking, Moving Wallpaper may be just the show for you.

Houdini and Doyle (2016)

Although James Lance only appeared in one episode of this short-lived period drama, you may be curious to watch it just to see Trent Crimm in a 19th-century costume. The actor's screen time was minimal, but Lance still managed to steal the show from the leading duo.

Mount Pleasant (2011–2017)

Following the life of a small, secluded community, Mount Pleasant is a perfect feel-good show, but don't expect James Lance to play one of the friendly neighbors. His character, Adam Wyatt, was the main villain of Season 6, trying to ruin everyone's fun by destroying Mount Pleasant.

Bronson (2008)

The cult movie starring Tom Hardy may be extremely difficult to sit through, but this mind-altering experience is certainly worth your time. Especially because James Lance played an important role in the film, portraying Phil Danielson — a prison art teacher who is tortured by Bronson in many scenes.
