Plot Twist Alert: BlackPink's Jennie Steals the Show in The Idol With Villainous Turn
No one was expecting this revelation.
The Idol is a far cry from a perfect show, as evidenced by the amount of controversy it has stirred with only two episodes released. The backlash is clear evidence that many viewers dislike Sam Levinson's latest creation. However, there's no denying that Euphoria's creators have some cool tricks up their sleeves.
The second episode just introduced fans to one of the most interesting storylines so far: with Jennie from BlackPink at its centre.
Millions of K-pop fans were looking forward to The Idol for one reason: they wanted to see Jennie act. The fact that the first episode revealed her character Dyanne to be merely a backup dancer for Lily-Rose Depp's Jocelyn disappointed them a great deal. However, it appears that Levinson isn't about to let the singer's talent and fame go to waste and is cooking up an intriguing backstory for Dyanne, which was revealed in the second episode.
In an unexpected scene between The Weeknd's Tedros and Dyanne, it was disclosed that the backup dancer is actually part of an elaborate plot to corrupt Jocelyn and force her to join Tedros' cult: Dyanne was the one who introduced the two to each other in the first place. With this revelation in mind, the entire world seems to be against the up-and-coming singer. It will be interesting to see how Jocelyn manages to deal with not only the sleazy Tedros but also the manipulative Dyanne.
Fans are thrilled to learn that Jennie has been given such an important role in the show after all. It seems that the rumours of HBO cutting most of Jennie's scenes to protect her image are turning out to be false. It would be quite strange if Dyanne just disappeared from the show after it's been revealed she's actually a villain in the story.
However, some fans are still upset that Jennie chose The Idol for her big screen debut, as the show is clearly taking advantage of her popularity to attract more viewers, and BlackPink fans are not okay with that.
'It's… not a good show. Jennie is amazing but I actually don't recommend watching the show and just looking at clips of Jennie from YouTube instead. She doesn't have a major role or anything,' a fan said.
The Idol Episode 3 will arrive on HBO on 18 June 2023.
