Outlander Season 7: 4 New Characters We Couldn't Care Less About
The current season has ruined those introductions.
While the current Season 7 of Starz's Outlander is often described as a return to form after the last disappointing installments, it still has a handful of problems. Yes, the main storyline involving Jamie and Claire has finally regained coherence, but it looks like the abundance of new characters introduced this season made the story far more bloated than it needed to be.
Here are four new characters we couldn't care less about.
Denzell Hunter
While fans of Diana Gabaldon's original book series were eagerly waiting for Denzell to finally appear on the show, his introduction in Season 7 proved to be a bit of a letdown. Don't get us wrong, Joey Phillips is a great casting choice for the Quaker surgeon, but his storyline was drastically cut from the novel, leaving the actor with only that much material to flesh out the fan-favorite character.
Rachel Murray
This character also struggled to adjust to the television format after being so beloved in the books, as Rachel's storyline was butchered even more than Denzell's. While her marriage to Ian Murray was expected to be one of the biggest events of Season 7, it was rushed and left fans with a sour taste.
Daniel Morgan
The iconic real-life historical figure could have been the best addition to Outlander in Season 7, but unfortunately, the writers rushed his introduction, asking Jamie to join his militia right after showing the character's prowess with a gun. And even though Morgan was getting the depth he deserved with each new episode, viewers did not see him enough to become really invested in the character. Hopefully, Morgan's storyline becomes more exciting in the second part of the season.
Major General Benedict Arnold
Just like Morgan, Benedict Arnold is a real historical figure, and quite popular among history buffs. Sadly, the writers decided to introduce him in the mid-season finale and wasted too much time establishing his connection to Jamie and Claire. Instead of saying goodbye to their favorite characters, viewers were forced to meet some random guy. Yikes.
The second part of Outlander Season 7 is expected to premiere in 2024.
