Outlander's Most Tragic Love Story Isn't Jamie & Claire's: It's Lord John's

Starz's Outlander is one of the most popular fantasy shows on air right now, but unlike HBO's House of the Dragon, people don't watch it for the intrigue, morally gray characters, or huge budgets. Outlander has always put romance first and action second, making fans eager to follow the main romantic storyline of Claire and Jamie Frasier, as well as the love stories of side characters.

But while Jamie and Claire's romance has had its ups and downs, the most heartbreaking love story actually has nothing to do with the main duo.

Since the second season of the show, fans have been enamored with Lord John, an English soldier who was captured and then spared by Jamie. Many noticed that the characters shared some crazy chemistry on screen, and when Jamie found himself in Lord John's prison, it became clear that John was actually in love with the brutal Scott.

Fans' suspicions were soon proven when John confessed his feelings to Jamie. Though the two became great friends, Jamie was unable to give John what he wanted most, as he was obviously in love with Claire.

The men continued to work together from that moment on, but the shadow of John's confession hung over them like a sword. Even though viewers realize that Jamie is not responsible for breaking his friend's heart, many feel bad for Lord John, as he is obviously desperate for Jamie's attention and is struggling with his unrequited love.

'I swear to God Lord John has been one of my favorite characters on this show. His love for William and Jamie is just amazing, and the guy never ceases to help Jamie and his family. I always feel so sad for him, knowing that the person he loves most could never love him back. It brings me to tears every time. Kind of hated Jamie for a bit,' one fan said.

Season 7 of Outlander is currently airing, and the final Season 8 has been confirmed, giving us hope that Lord John will meet someone who'll be able to give him love in return.
