One Piece's Koby Looks Familiar? Here's Where You've Seen the Actor Before
The actor just got his big career break.
Even though fans of the One Piece manga were sure that Netflix would ruin the original pirate story with its live-action adaptation, as soon as the show was released, people began to applaud the streaming service for doing the impossible — making a Western remake of a Japanese anime a project worth watching.
One Piece has already become one of the most popular shows on the platform, with viewers praising Iñaki Godoy's performance as lead character Luffy, who is determined to create the most colorful and iconic team of pirates the world has ever seen.
But while Godoy is surely the beating heart of One Piece, fans were also blown away by the supporting cast, with Morgan Davies' performance as Koby being one of the most prominent on the series. Do you think the Koby star looks familiar? Here's why.
A Child Star
Morgan began his career as a child, starring in the 2010 Charlotte Gainsbourg drama The Tree, in which he portrayed a girl who could communicate with her deceased father through a tree. Davies is a transgender actor, but he had not announced his identity before starring in The Tree, so he began his career playing female characters.
That poignant role earned Davies a lot of acclaim, and his next big role came in Starz's The Girlfriend Experience Season 2, where he played the daughter of Carmen Ejogo's character. While this role went largely unnoticed, it certainly helped him land a part in the big Hollywood project he had been dreaming of for a long time.
A Big Year
In 2023, Morgan Davies starred in one of the most hyped horror movies of the decade — Evil Dead Rise, often described as the most gruesome and terrifying studio horror of recent years. In the film, Morgan played Danny, the son of the main character.
It's obvious that Morgan got his One Piece role even before filming began on Evil Dead Rise, and considering how much attention he got for playing Koby, it looks like this up-and-coming actor is going to surprise Hollywood in the years to come.
