One of the Best Easter Eggs in Netflix's One Piece? Luffy's Father
Not many people spotted this Easter egg.
When Netflix announced its plans to adapt the iconic Japanese manga into a live-action series, fans of the original feared that the streaming giant would once again spectacularly fail to do justice to the beloved source material (Cowboy Bebop, we still mourn you). However, the moment it was announced that One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda would be overseeing the production, fans began to feel confident that the show would be a blast.
And it did, as both fans and critics loved the first season of the show, praising it for using the adventurous vibe of the original while adding some interesting new things to the manga's story.
Also, with Oda serving as producer, it was obvious that he would try to sneak as many easter eggs into the show as possible, and one of those easter eggs sets up an insanely important character.
The Man in Green
In the very first episode, fans were treated to the flashback scene of young Vice Admiral Monkey D. Garp executing Pirate King Gol D. Roger, and the scene looked great, all thanks to the massive amount of extras dressed as Marines making the scene look quite grandiose.
Die-hard fans were not paying attention to the white and blue uniforms of the Marines, however, as one figure caught their attention - a towing man dressed in a green cape with his back to the camera.
While this costume might not mean anything to new fans of One Piece, fans who read the original manga immediately realized who this person was.
Yes, this mysterious person is actually Monkey D. Dragon, Luffy's father and the supreme commander of the Revolutionary Army. This character was always shown wearing the green cape in the anime and manga, so fans had no trouble recognizing him even without his iconic face tattoo.
Perhaps Netflix will introduce Dragon in the next season, although some fans are sure that Luffy's father will appear much later in the series.
Netflix has not yet confirmed that One Piece has been renewed for a second season.
