Now That SAG-AFTRA Strike Is Over, These 5 Highly Anticipated Movies Are About to Start Filming
These movies will resume production in the near two weeks.
This year has seen a historic event in Hollywood as the Writers and Actors Guilds joined forces for the first time in sixty years. With SAG-AFTRA and PACt having just reached an agreement that ended a hundred and eighteen days of striking, many productions have resumed.
Here are just five films that are expected to resume shooting as soon as possible.
Deadpool 3
Five years after the release of the previous installment, the Deadpool franchise is cooking up a new movie. Revolving around the beloved, cheeky title character portrayed by Ryan Reynolds, the as-yet untitled film will also feature Hugh Jackman's legendary Wolverine. Set to premiere in May 2024, Deadpool 3 is expected to resume filming after being halted in July following the start of the actors' strike.
Gladiator 2
The sequel to Ridley Scott's 2000 epic Gladiator is set for release in November 2024. The upcoming film will explore the life of Lucius, who was saved by Maximus in the original film and has now grown into a man. Derek Jacobi, Connie Nielsen and Djimon Hounsou will reprise their roles. Filming on Gladiator 2 was also suspended this summer due to the strike.
Beetlejuice 2
The star-studded sequel to the iconic 1988 film will feature the likes of Michael Keaton, Willem Dafoe, Katherine O'Hara and Monica Bellucci, as well as rising star Jenna Ortega. According to director Tim Burton, the movie, which has been in the works since the 1990s, was almost complete when the SAG-AFTRA strike broke out. Now that filming may resume, it could be completed in time for a September 2024 release.
Venom 3
Another installment in the Venom part of the MCU, Venom 3 will pick up after the events of the franchise's 2021 film and follow the beloved characters on their new adventure. Like many other films, this one began filming earlier this summer, but production was put on hold during the actors' strike.
Juror No. 2
The only original film on the list, this Clint Eastwood procedural thriller will follow a juror in a criminal case who realizes midway through the trial that he is to blame for the victim's death. The upcoming film stars Nicholas Hoult, Toni Collette and Zoey Deutch. Production had barely begun when the strike hit, so the film will begin principal photography in the near future.
