Nina Dobrev Picked Vampire Diaries Over Boardwalk Empire For NSFW Reason
The star doesn't seem to regret missing out on a hit crime show.
Today, it's hard to imagine a world where Elena Gilbert and Katherine Pierce are played by anyone other than Nina Dobrev, as the star has perfectly captured the vibe of The CW's iconic show The Vampire Diaries, becoming a role model for millions of young women around the world.
However, it looks like TV producers were engaged in a real tug-of-war to cast Dobrev in their shows back in 2009, and the fact that the actress chose the vampire show was almost a complete coincidence.
During one of her recent interviews to promote her upcoming Netflix film The Out-Laws, Dobrev opened up about the projects she has turned down over the years, and one of them really surprised fans. When Dobrev first arrived in Hollywood at 19, she was immediately asked to audition for two major roles, one in The Vampire Diaries and the other in Boardwalk Empire. So why did Dobrev choose a less promising series rather than appear alongside Steve Buscemi?
‘I wasn’t allowed to test for both Vampire Diaries and Boardwalk Empire. And I didn’t know, like, how do you make a decision? I think the thing that ended up being the deciding factor was that, I was 19 or 20, and Boardwalk Empire required me to sign a nudity clause. But it wasn’t in the script. It was like, at some point, there might be nudity and you’ll have to do it,’ Dobrev confessed.
Yes, it looks like the young actress decided to say no to appearing in the now-iconic crime show because she didn't fancy the idea of shooting nude scenes, which is quite a serious reason. And in hindsight, it would appear that Dobrev chose the right part for herself since while everyone still remembers Steve Buscemi, Michael Pitt and Michael Shannon in Boardwalk Empire, people have completely forgotten the female actors that starred in that show.
And seeing how Dobrev now boasts an impressive net worth of $11 million, most of which came from her role in The Vampire Diaries, it's no surprise she doesn't regret choosing the CW vampire series over the HBO period drama. Money talks, Boardwalk Empire walks.
