Netflix's One Piece: Here's Where You've Seen Alvida Actress Before
The actress just got her big break.
Without a doubt, Netflix's One Piece is already one of the biggest shows of the year, and for good reason — the recently released project became the first instance of an iconic Japanese manga being adapted for live action and loved by fans of the original.
The show, which follows young pirate Luffy as he assembles his dream crew of pirates to prove himself the best captain in the world, managed to enchant millions of viewers in a matter of days and helped many up-and-coming actors finally find their fans.
Of course, the idea of adapting the beloved manga into live action sounded a bit risky from the start, so none of the really big actors agreed to try their luck in the show. Thanks to this, the One Piece cast is full of aspiring performers, and viewers are incredibly pleased that Ilia Isorelýs Paulino got her chance to shine.
Captain Alvida
Paulino appeared in the very first episode of One Piece, playing the role of Captain Alvida, the first major pirate captain to join Luffy's team. But although she was thrown into the ocean by Luffy's fists and viewers were quick to write her off as dead, Alvida returned in Episode 8 and teamed up with other captains to hunt down Luffy and claim a reward for capturing him.
Even though Alvida didn't get much screen time in the first season of One Piece, fans were quick to notice how talented Paulino was and wondered where they had seen her before.
While it may look like the actress must have been in the industry for decades, Paulino actually started her journey to the top just a few years ago, appearing in small roles in movies like Me Time and Queenpins. However, her big break came in another hit streaming show.
Breakthrough role
Ilia Isorelýs Paulino got her first big shot at fame in Amazon Prime's The Sex Lives of College Girls, released in 2021. In the show, she played Lila Flores, a manager of Sips where the series' main character was working.
Fans note that the actress was simply riveting as the hilarious manager. Considering that she improvised most of her lines, it's no wonder that Paulino was cast in One Piece and continued to prove her talent in the new role.
