Netflix's One Piece Fans Found a Perfect Actor for Rob Lucci, and It's an A-Lister
The hit show could add a major star to its cast.
Although many fans of the original Japanese manga, One Piece, were initially apprehensive when Netflix revealed its plans to adapt it into a live-action series, any reservations vanished when the first season premiered on the streaming platform. Fans appreciated how the writers managed to retain the feel-good atmosphere of the manga. While Netflix's adaptation of One Piece did diverge somewhat from the original, viewers warmly embraced the changes the writers came up with.
Still, One Piece was undoubtedly a gamble during its development, which might explain why its cast comprised primarily lesser-known actors. Prominent stars were likely hesitant to get involved with such a risky endeavour. However, given the resounding success of the first season, the expectation is that some A-listers might be joining the cast for the upcoming second season.
A Big Star For A Big Villain
While many cherished characters from the original manga were featured in the show's first season, several are still waiting for their live-action debut. Undoubtedly, fans are looking forward to the introduction of the iconic villain, Rob Lucci, a masked agent of CP0.
This character has always been a fan favourite among the admirers of the original manga and anime. Thus, it's expected that Netflix will probably want to introduce him into the story as soon as possible. But who would be a good choice to play this pivotal character?
Fans seem to have the answer already: they are pushing for Netflix to cast Keanu Reeves in the iconic role. Many believe the actor definitely looks the part and will be a welcome addition to the hit show's ensemble cast.
Not So Simple
While Reeves seems a match made in heaven for the role, the casting is not without its challenges. Historically, Reeves has primarily focused on films rather than television roles.
Furthermore, some fans believe that Reeves might be a tad too old to portray Lucci. Meanwhile, casting lesser-known actors worked wonders for the show in the first season, and as the saying goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
'Too old, Lucci is around 30 years old. I know that Keanu never ages, but still. Personally, I like how not well known actors nailed their roles in OPLA. Until the casting quality doesn't decrease, I'm fine with it,' a fan said.
