MobLand Fans Might Be Waiting Longer Than Expected for Season 2—Here’s the Latest Scoop

The next chapter of MobLand is on the horizon, but fans hoping for a quick return may want to brace themselves—new buzz hints at a much later premiere than anyone hoped.
We finally have a real update on when MobLand is likely coming back, and yeah, it points to a 2026 return. Not official, but the math checks out.
So when is Season 2 actually happening?
Joanne Froggatt just gave a filming update while doing press for Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, and it pretty much sets the timeline.
"Shooting begins towards the end of October."
That lines up with a 2026 premiere window for Season 2. If cameras do not roll until late October, post-production on a 10-episode crime drama is not exactly a quick turnaround. Translation: do not hold your breath for 2025.
Froggatt also sounded genuinely thrilled to jump back in, saying she loved playing Jan and always wanted to take on a gangster-adjacent role. It is nice when the enthusiasm matches the material.
Why Paramount+ moved fast on renewal
MobLand premiered March 30, 2025 on Paramount+, quickly picked up strong reviews and a sizable audience, and got renewed in June. Chris McCarthy, who oversees Showtime/MTV Entertainment at Paramount Global, did not exactly undersell it in a statement carried by THR:
"With more than 26 million viewers and climbing, MobLand has become a resounding triumph — driven by the creative brilliance of Guy, Jez, Ronan, and David Glasser, and brought to life by the powerhouse performances of Tom, Pierce, and Helen. We are elated to greenlight a second season of this global phenomenon, which has dominated both domestic and international charts and soared to No. 1 in the U.K."
That is a lot of chest-thumping, but the numbers back it up. Not exactly a shocker that Season 2 got the go-ahead.
Season 1 quick refresher
Created by Ronan Bennett, MobLand ran 10 episodes and wrapped on a cliffhanger, which, sure, rude. The show also fared well with critics and audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.
- Platform and premiere: Paramount+, March 30, 2025
- Creator: Ronan Bennett
- Cast: Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan, Joanne Froggatt, Helen Mirren, Paddy Considine, and more
- Season 1 size: 10 episodes, ended on a cliffhanger
- Reception: 76% Tomatometer (critics), 70% audience score (Popcornmeter) on Rotten Tomatoes
- Renewal: Officially announced in June 2025 after topping charts and hitting 26+ million viewers
- Season 2 status: Filming starts toward the end of October; a 2026 release is the safe bet
Bottom line: filming late this year, likely premiere next year, and the cast is back for more of the high-gloss, high-body-count stuff that clearly worked the first time. If you were yelling at the TV during that finale, relief is coming — just not as fast as you want.
