After three years, fans have finally learned why Liv Tyler chose not to return for the hit show's second season.

When Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk announced that their hit show 9-1-1 would be getting a Texas-based spinoff, people were psyched, as the main show is often considered one of the freshest and most compelling procedurals out there. The news that Rob Lowe and Liv Tyler would be headlining the new show stunned fans, making Lone Star the most anticipated series of 2020.

However, Liv Tyler only remained for ten episodes of the first season, departing without explanation. Now, it seems we finally know why.

Tyler's Michelle Blake was hailed as one of the most compelling characters in the first season, so her surprise exit in the final episode caught many fans off guard and raised the critical question - why did Tyler decide to leave the hit show after only one season? According to various sources, her exit was motivated by personal rather than professional reasons.

Tyler's family live in London, and the show is filmed on location in LA, which meant she had to leave her family behind and stay in LA the whole time that the season was filming. It was an inconvenient arrangement for her from the start, but the pandemic that broke out in 2020 made things even worse.

The filming of Lone Star's first season was put off several times, prompting Tyler to quit as the impending travel bans would have separated her from her family for even longer.

It appears that Tyler chose her family over a lucrative job, and fans are genuinely supportive of that decision, calling Tyler a true role model when it comes to family life. Moreover, the creative team of Lone Star reportedly had no complaints about Tyler and left the door open for her to return.

However, with the show now in its fourth season, it is highly unlikely that Tyler will return after such a long absence.

9-1-1: Lone Star Season 4 Episode 15 will arrive on Fox on 2 May 2023.
