The actress learned about the new show from her kids.

When The Big Bang Theory first went on the air in 2007, hardly anyone could imagine that the sitcom about a group of nerds would become one of the most popular shows in TV history. Neither was a spin-off on the horizon.

Nevertheless, a prequel show titled Young Sheldon appeared in 2017 and aired hand in hand with TBBT for two years, eventually outgrowing the parent show. In 2023, a new spin-off is being discussed.

Just recently, HBO Max chairman Casey Bloys announced that, after rebranding into Max, the network will start developing a new spin-off to The Big Bang Theory. Chuck Lorre, the executive producer of the show as well as its prequel Young Sheldon, is working on the new project for Warner Bros. that owns Max. Although nothing has yet been revealed plot-wise, there are several possibilities of what the new spin-off might be about.

Mayim Bialik, who played Amy on TBBT, made a brief comment on the spin-off announcement recently. In an interview with Variety, the actress admitted she didn't know about the network's plans to produce a new TBBT show, and in fact, this news took her by surprise!

'My kids are like, 'Mama, do you know anything about this?' I promise, I don't,' Mayim Bialik told Variety.

While the promised spin-off will most likely feature a fresh cast of actors, the possibility of the original TBBT stars popping up on the new show is still there. Both Bialik and Simon Helberg, who played Howard on TBBT, made guest appearances on Young Sheldon, doing narration along with Jim Parsons (adult Sheldon). Although mostly unnoticed, Kaley Cuoco (Penny) was the voice of pool water in Season 3 Episode 10 of the prequel show.

In addition to new cast members, the future spin-off will most likely see a change in the episode duration, with one episode's running time being increased to 40 minutes or an hour. This will certainly feel like a drastic change to the franchise's format.

Fans of TBBT are now eagerly waiting to get more updates on Max's proposed spin-off. Meanwhile, Season 7 of Young Sheldon has been announced, and the sixth one is still on the air on CBS. The next episode will be released on May 11.
