Camila Mendes teases sequel ambitions and brutal training as she suits up as Teela in Travis Knight’s Masters of the Universe, arriving next summer from Mattel and Amazon MGM Studios with Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man.

Masters of the Universe is actually happening, cameras have rolled, and Camila Mendes sounds fired up about it. If you were wondering where this thing stands or what kind of vibe they went for, she just gave a pretty clear snapshot.

Where the movie is at

Travis Knight is directing the live-action Masters of the Universe for Mattel and Amazon MGM Studios, with the film set to hit U.S. theaters on June 5, 2026. Mendes plays Teela. The rest of the lineup is... not subtle:

  • Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man
  • Jared Leto as Skeletor
  • Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn
  • Idris Elba as Man-At-Arms
  • ...and more

What Mendes is saying

Talking to Variety, Mendes said this is the kind of project she has wanted to do for years: big-scale action, full-tilt training, the whole superhero workout lifestyle. She sounds genuinely into the film itself too, not just the gym time. The way she puts it, they did not turn Eternia into a giant wink-wink comedy, but they did not go humorless either.

"It has a sense of humor, but it also isn't completely one big joke."

On the physical side, she had a few major stunts and trained for months to nail them. It was, in her words, a rigorous process, and she came out of it with a much deeper handle on what her body can do, nutrition, and the work it takes to sustain that level of performance. In plain English: she lived in the gym and it shows.

The He-Man of it all

Mendes is very bullish on Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man. She calls him a sweetheart, but the real note here is that she watched the physical transformation up close. They were in London for two months, training together every day, which is a very specific and telling detail. If you have been curious whether he could pull off the look and presence, that is the part she seems most excited for people to see.

Sequels? She is not saying

When asked how many Masters movies she is signed for, Mendes played it safe. She would not give numbers, but she is hoping there is more than one. Translation: if this hits, the door is open.

Bottom line

Between Travis Knight at the helm and a cast this loaded, the movie is clearly swinging for it. Mendes selling the tone as fun but not a spoof is a promising sign. Also, Jared Leto as Skeletor is a choice. We will see how that plays on June 5, 2026.
