Luke Grimes Already Knows How Kayce's Story Ends in Yellowstone Finale

Despite having premiered all the way back in 2018, Paramount+'s Yellowstone continues to entertain viewers with its realistic portrayal of a powerful ranching family, featuring intrigue, avarice, and crime. And while the Duttons might not be the easiest bunch to empathise with, fans can't stop following them, thanks in large part to Taylor Sheridan's excellent writing and the palpable chemistry between the lead actors.

However, one consistently overlooked character is Luke Grimes' Kayce Dutton, John Dutton's eldest legitimate son.

Since the first season, fans have been somewhat disappointed with Kayce's character development. Despite being positioned as his father's heir, he has consistently been eclipsed by his siblings. For four complete seasons, Kayce played second fiddle to other characters on the show, with no compelling lines or decisions to make. So now that Yellowstone's final season is on the air, it's high time that Sheridan finally addressed this issue.

In the last episode of the first half of the final season, John finally appointed Kayce the new steward of the family ranch, entrusting him and his wife with running the day-to-day affairs of the ranch. Given such a big promotion, it seems that Kayce will finally gain importance as a character in the show's remaining episodes, a prospect that Luke Grimes himself is highly optimistic about.

'I think this is a huge moment for Kayce. It's his legacy, and I'm honestly really excited about this chapter for Kayce and Monica, because I think we're going to see a whole different side to them. Obviously, it's going to put him in a position where he has to take on a lot more than he probably has been comfortable with. With what John's got to go do, it's time for Kayce to step up,' Grimes said.

Indeed, it's evident that Kayce will assume a much bigger role in Yellowstone's remaining episodes. Many fans speculate that Kevin Costner's John will meet his end in the series finale, leaving his ranch and legacy to Kayce. That will necessitate substantial character development for Kayce before the show concludes.
