Longing for a Twilight Reboot? These 2 Modern–Day Stars Might as Well Lead the Cast
That would be an explosive duo indeed.
Summary
- This year has seen its fair share of reboots of classic projects.
- The Twilight director has been thinking about possible castings for the film series revival.
- The two actors she suggested have been in the spotlight lately.
Since the dawn of Hollywood, reboots have been a common feature of the film industry. For instance, there have been numerous iterations of Wing and a Prayer, The Wizard of Oz, and Sherlock Holmes throughout the twentieth century. In this light, there's no point ranting and raving about a popular franchise being rebooted – it's just the way Hollywood works.
In that regard, 2023 has been quite an eventful year, with the news that the fan–favorite Harry Potter film series would be revived in the form of a TV show making a big splash. Then, James Gunn's takeover of DC Studios brought about significant changes that overhauled the entire DCU franchise. Finally, NBC's hit sitcom Frasier got a revival nearly two decades after the original show ended. Naturally, many people have come to expect more reboots of beloved projects, of which Twilight seems to be #1.
Interestingly enough, the saga's director, Catherine Hardwicke, recently commented on who might play the central duo if the franchise were revived today.
Jacob Elordi as Edward Cullen
Speaking on the Watch–A–Long Podcast, the director played a 'what if' game with the host and shared her thoughts on what Twilight would look like if it were remade today. Apparently, the movies would have a completely different cast, possibly led by Jacob Elordi.
'That would be perfect,' Catherine Hardwicke said of casting Elordi as Edward Cullen for a potential reboot. 'I mean, he's amazing. He probably would be Edward today. Exactly!'
Aside from stating the obvious – that the actor is cute as a button – she praised his performance in Saltburn. Remarkably, Emerald Fennell's psychological thriller isn't Jacob Elordi's only premiere of the year. He also stars in Sofia Coppola's biopic Priscilla as the King of Rock'n'Roll, Elvis Presley.
Jenna Ortega as Bella Swan
When considering who might portray Bella in a potential contemporary installment of Twilight, Catherine Hardwicke seemed less ready to give a comprehensive answer. However, she did agree with the host who suggested the Wednesday star for the role.
'I do think there's a lot of really cool young actors today. Of course, you just mentioned Jenna Ortega, she's amazing,' the filmmaker commented on a potential Bella casting.
Just like Elordi, the actress has been busy lately as she continues to star in the hit Netflix series and is set to star in the upcoming sequel to Tim Burton's classic, Beetlejuice 2. So, it seems that these are doomed to stay plain 'what ifs.'
