The beloved show is back, but not in the way fans expected.

Without a doubt, the Law & Order franchise is the most popular and acclaimed procedural show out there, seeing how it has been on the air in its various incarnations for 33 years in a row. While the original show and the SVU spinoff have been the premier offerings in the franchise's roster, some fans loved the Criminal Intent spinoff even better than these two.

Vincent D'Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe were simply phenomenal as the pair of tough-as-nails cops. The show ran for ten seasons, and fans still want to see the familiar faces back on TV.

However, it seems that Dick Wolf has a different idea in mind. While Criminal Intent will return to the screens, it won't be in the US, as Canada's Citytv has bought the rights to produce Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent. This show will feature Canadian actors following in the footsteps of D'Onofrio and Erbe, with Canadian screenwriters helping them turn interesting real-life crimes into compelling scripts.

According to rumours, Wolf will not have any creative control over the show, and two of the original Criminal Intent's main stars will not be reprising their roles. However, fans of the show shouldn't lose all hope just yet, as Vincent D'Onofrio recently expressed interest in reprising his role as Detective Robert Goren.

'I've made it clear to Dick Wolf that I would come back if he wanted to do a streaming six to ten or 13 episodes, I would be totally into it. To play a more mature Robert Goren would be really fun, and Warren Leight, who writes Special Victims Unit, was one of my favourite writers on Criminal Intent,' D'Onofrio said.

So, it seems that the busy actor is not ready to star in a long-running police procedural again but is more than open to the possibility of reprising his classic role in a small one-season revival, which will certainly please fans eager to see the iconic Goren again.

Fans are more than happy about this and are urging Wolf to greenlight a streaming miniseries revival immediately.
