Kim Kardashian's Met Gala 2023 Look Leaves Fans Disappointed

On May 1, the long-awaited Met Gala 2023 took place, with a theme dedicated to the work of the late fashion designer and artist Karl Lagerfeld. Tens of thousands of pearls, chains, and cat hair (a big meow to Jared Leto's fursuit) appeared before the cameras.

And while some of the outfits wowed fans, others left viewers of this year's most high-octane fashion event rather disappointed.

As every year, one of the highlights of the 2023 Met Gala was the main reality TV family, the Kardashians. Although it was rumored that the family was not on the guest list at the behest of Vogue editor Anna Wintour, three of the sisters did make it to the ball. And while Kylie and Kendall's outfits seem to have pleased fans, Kim Kardashian's look this year left many people disappointed.

The socialite and fashion mogul appeared in a custom Schiaparelli gown designed by Daniel Roseberry. The haute couture garment was adorned with 50,000 pearls and 16,000 crystals, which along with the corset and draped skirt became the main component of the outfit.

But unfortunately, jewelry that screams its fabulous price tag is not always equivalent to the high art that famous couturiers create with their timeless fashion pieces. Despite its sheer luxury, many fans clearly did not approve of Kim Kardashian's outfit, claiming that it has nothing to do with Lagerfeld's legacy that the Met Gala was dedicated to.

'She is always a walking commercial for herself and her narcissism,' one of the fans said, implying that all these pearls were less an homage to Lagerfeld's work than to Kim's own capital.

Furthermore, some people noted that the dress is very reminiscent of Kardashian's 2007 Playboy photoshoot, in which the only elements covering her nudity were pearl necklaces.

'When we thought damaging a piece of history was enough, she shows up to Karl's creative legacy celebration wearing a cheapened skimmed Schiaparelli weirdly reminiscent of her Playboy past,' another fan pointed out.

What's more, it is widely known that Coco Chanel and Elsa Schiaparelli had a feud that lasted for many decades and did not end with the death of the famous designers. That is why wearing the Schiaparelli outfit was a strange choice for an event dedicated to Lagerfeld, who is known for his collaboration with Chanel.

Was Kim's dress a reference to the way her mother supported her during the Playboy shoot, or was it even a reference to Taylor Swift's famous bejeweled silver minidress? Who knows! Whatever the star's inspiration for her Met Gala 2023 look was, it certainly wasn't Lagerfeld.-
