The Mandalorian and Grogu trailer finally unveils Rotta the Hutt—and he’s instantly a fan favorite. With Jeremy Allen White entering the galaxy far, far away, speculation is surging over Rotta’s mysterious role in the duo’s next chapter.

Star Wars just dropped the trailer for 'The Mandalorian and Grogu,' and the internet has already adopted a new favorite: Rotta the Hutt. Yes, that Rotta. Yes, voiced by Jeremy Allen White. No, you are not hallucinating.

So who is Rotta again?

If your brain filed this away under Deep Clone Wars Cuts, you’re not alone. Rotta is Jabba the Hutt’s kid, introduced in the 2008 'Star Wars: The Clone Wars' movie as a Huttlet being ferried around by Anakin and Ahsoka. He was even given a very dignified nickname by Ahsoka back then:

'Stinky'

Fast-forward to now: Rotta is all grown up and apparently jacked. The trailer shows him flexing in front of a packed colosseum, which is not a sentence I expected to type about a Hutt in 2025. He’s voiced by 'The Bear' star Jeremy Allen White, though it’s not clear how much of his recognizable voice will cut through the performance. Huttese growls? Full Jeremy? A mix? We’ll see.

What’s actually in the trailer

Beyond the Rotta reveal, this is the big-screen reunion of Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin and, of course, Grogu (Baby Yoda if you refuse to let the meme die). The footage also flashes Sigourney Weaver and Johnny Coyne, which is a nice 'oh, they’re in this' moment. As far as story details, Lucasfilm is keeping it tight, but the vibe is classic Mando: dangerous arenas, stoic helmet, adorable chaos muppet.

The release landscape (aka: when do we get this?)

  • 'The Mandalorian and Grogu' hits U.S. theaters on May 22, 2026, making it the first Star Wars movie in theaters since 2019’s 'The Rise of Skywalker'.
  • The only other dated Star Wars film right now is Shawn Levy’s 'Star Wars: Starfighter', set for May 28, 2027. That one recently started production and stars Ryan Gosling, Aaron Pierre, Amy Adams, Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Flynn Gray, and more.
  • If you need a refresher, the first three seasons of 'The Mandalorian' are streaming on Disney+.

Final thought

Rotta jumping from baby slug to arena-flexing heavy with Jeremy Allen White behind the mic is the kind of weird swing I’m absolutely here for. Star Wars doing something unexpected? More of that, please.
