Arrow and The Flash on The CW, Gotham on Fox, and Doom Patrol on HBO are arguably the most well-known modern series featuring beloved superheroes. But since they ended, there are only a few DC shows that audiences continue to talk about. HBO Max's Peacemaker is certainly one of them.

Peacemaker's Success

When it premiered in early 2022, Peacemaker was an instant hit, winning over audiences around the world. Following John Cena's iconic character from the 2021 iteration of The Suicide Squad, the show explored his fate after the events of the film, when he was forced to join A.R.G.U.S. - a fictional government agency led by Amanda Waller. Tasked with finding and destroying "butterflies," parasitic creatures capable of taking over human bodies, the anti-hero faced a whole new set of problems as he embarked on an exciting journey.

Needless to say, DC fans were quick to embrace the HBO show. And as a result, many viewers are looking forward to the second season of Peacemaker.

James Gunn's Uplifting Update

Since James Gunn took over DC as the studio's new head, he has implemented many changes, wrapping up certain franchises, rebooting others, and creating new projects. Peacemaker, written by Gunn, is one of his most cherished works that he plans to develop further.

Throughout 2023, the filmmaker was reportedly busy writing Superman: Legacy, the upcoming installment of the flagship franchise that will star David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan as Clark Kent and Lois Lane, respectively. However, it seems that James Gunn now has time for the second season of Peacemaker.

On his Threads page, the director recently revealed that he has almost half of the script for the second installment of the HBO Max series completed. More importantly, Gunn also shared that he hasn't been working on any projects other than Superman: Legacy and Peacemaker, meaning that they are his top priorities.

While it's still uncertain when Peacemaker Season 2 will see the light of day, the future of the show seems optimistic.
