Jade & Nate Romance Just Doesn't Add Up in Ted Lasso Season 3
It looks like some fans are not sold on Ted Lasso's new romantic couple.
Rapidly approaching the end of its third season, Ted Lasso is still pretty much the best comedy on the air right now, but the current installment still suffers from many problems, including bloated storylines and questionable writing choices.
And of all the dubious narrative decisions in Season 3, Nate's new romance with Jade seems to be the most confusing for fans — while the two look great together now, people aren't sure about how their relationship started in the first place.
Back in Season 2, Nate dreamed of proving himself to the people around him, so he took his family out to dinner at a fancy restaurant. When they got there, the waitress refused to seat him and his family in the best part of the restaurant, even though there was no one there, and sat them in the back instead. This waitress was Jade, so viewers naturally suspected her of hating Nate or even being a racist.
'My problem with this is that this is the same lady who wouldn't give him his preferred seat when it wasn't busy strictly because of how he looked. If you rewatch that whole arc, she comes off as potentially racist,' one fan noted.
But when Nate became the head manager of a premier league team, Jade suddenly changed her attitude towards him and even became his girlfriend. People really hated this idea from the writers, arguing that Nate started to look even more pathetic, as it appears that Jade agreed to be with him only because of his money.
However, not all fans agree with this sentiment, arguing that Jade simply saw something in Nate and fell in love with him because of it.
'Jade saw a side of him that made her feel like he was being honest and vulnerable and maybe even passionate about something he cared about,' another fan argued.
In any case, after a troubled start, Nate and Jade are clearly much more beloved now than before, as the writers have done everything in their power to make this pairing both realistic and compelling. We'll see how their love story evolves in the season's finale, which will air on Apple TV+ on May 31, 2023.
