Kevin Costner may be preparing to leave Yellowstone, but that doesn’t mean audiences will not have plenty of new content to sift through in the coming years.

The immensely popular TV show has spawned several spin-offs and plans to add numerous others here over the course of the next few years. As a result, fans will hopefully be satisfied regardless of if Costner returns or not.

Chris McCarthy, an executive at ViacomCBS, recently confirmed with Vulture that multiple Yellowstone spin-offs are already in the works. In fact, the network plans to release at least two Yellowstone-based shows each year, at least until 2025.

However, that number could far exceed an average of two releases each year, considering the forecast.

The lineup includes the upcoming second season of 1923, along with the new series Bass Reeves and Lioness (more details, below). However, that’s simply the streaming universe as Paramount also plans to finalize season five of Yellowstone, along with another spin-off from the same era (likely featuring Matthew McConaughey).

What are fans to make of all the gossip surrounding Matthew McConaughey and Yellowstone? What show will replace Yellowstone in the event John Dutton does not return? Here is a breakdown of what we know regarding Yellowstone and its upcoming spin-offs:

1923 - Season 2 (Fall 2023)

Unfortunately, we have yet to confirm an exact release date for the much anticipated season of 1923. It’s arguably the best of any Yellowstone spin-off. The story and era are intriguing, and who could turn down the opportunity to watch Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren in the same show?

Shooting concludes this summer, leaving many to believe 1923 will return late this fall for its season two premiere. Here’s hoping for the best for the prequel.

Bass Reeves - Season 1 (Fall 2023)

Bass Reeves also has the potential to become one of the better Yellowstone prequel series. The upcoming Western is based on the true story of the first African-American Deputy U.S. Marshal, Bass Reeves.

The fourth installment in the beloved Yellowstone franchise stars David Oyelowo along with noteworthy appearances from Barry Pepper and Dennis Quaid. Bass Reeves is being described as an offshoot to 1883, yet another prequel to Yellowstone.

The production is ongoing, leading many to believe a late-2023 or early-2024 release is likely. We’ll update as soon as more is known.

And when asked about the McConaughey rumors, McCarthy wasn’t about to divulge any secrets, but it’s no surprise they’d love to have him on board:

Yellowstone - Season 5 (Fall 2023)

You’ve probably heard that Kevin Costner and series creator Taylor Sheridan are feuding unless you live under a rock. Unfortunately, the dispute is hampering the future of season five of Yellowstone. The mid-season finale wrapped up in February, and episodes were slated to return this summer.

However, that is no longer feasible considering the cast and crew have yet to return to finish shooting scenes for season five. Consequently, it’s impossible to predict when, and if, Yellowstone season five will return.

Be that as it may, we find it hard to believe that this iconic series would call it quits without providing some type of conclusion for fans. We’re assuming a return in late-2023, or early-2024.

‘Untitled’ Yellowstone Spin-off (TBA)

Who would have thought that a yet to be titled Yellowstone-based spin-off may exceed season five of the original show, due to the conflicts between Costner and Sheridan? Notwithstanding, it’s highly likely considering the recent confirmation that Matthew McConaughey is joining the cast.

Viacom executive McCarthy noted that he’s always been a “big fan” and is looking forward to his collaboration in the near future. While fans would love to see a debut in 2023, it’s far more likely that a new spin-off will not arrive before 2024.

After 2023….

Fans do not need to fret, even if Costner departs Yellowstone for good. There are even more new series in the works, including the announced 6666 Ranch spin-off, along with another prequel, set in the year 1944.

Both of these projects are in the early stages of production and may not arrive until 2024-2025.
