The second season has yet to premiere.

Last year, the world was stunned by Max's Our Flag Means Death, an ensemble comedy centered on a ragtag crew of LGBTQ+ pirates. Created by and starring Taika Waititi, OFMD was quickly dubbed the hottest project to premiere in 2022, and with both critics and fans loving the show, Max didn't waste much time renewing the project for a second season.

However, it's been more than a year since the first season hit streaming, and Season 2 hasn't even been previewed yet. What happened?

According to various rumors, the second season of OFMD started filming in September 2022, and the production was reportedly completed last December without any delays. Considering that post-production takes about half a year, Season 2 should already have either been available for streaming or at least had a release date. But instead, the viewers are left with nothing.

While some of the fans are still sure that the post-production proved to be a bit more challenging than expected, this is totally wishful thinking, as Max would have provided the audience with at least some news about Season 2 in this scenario, sharing stills or even a trailer to keep the anticipation high.

Another viable reason for the delay is the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. While the filming itself hasn't been affected by them at all, American actors are currently barred from promoting projects they've already completed, and Max will certainly want a lot of exposure for the return of their most popular comedy show.

However, there's one more possible explanation, and it's the one that fans fear the most.

Over the past few years, Warner Bros. Discovery's new head David Zaslav has proven himself as a ruthless businessman, shelving projects for good just to get some money back in taxes. Both Batgirl and the final season of Snowpiercer fell victim to the unfair and dubious strategy, and some fans are worried OFMD may be next in line.

However, it's most likely that Max is simply taking their time to find the best possible release date for the show to make the biggest splash.
