It looks like a divisive character may be killed off this season.

Since 2019, Virgin River has been Netflix's most popular melodrama, as fans loved following LA nurse Mel as she moved to the titular quiet town to begin her life over. But while the show started out rather cozy and slow, with people meeting, falling in love, and enjoying holidays with parties, Virgin River grew darker year after year, and it looks like the upcoming Season 5 might be the series' most brutal outing yet.

The recently released trailer for the first part of Season 5 (yes, Netflix decided to break the season into two parts) shows that something bad is coming to Virgin River, as the huge fire threatens the lives and homes of all the town's residents. Besides, it also looks like one character's relationship with criminals might finally cost him his life.

The trailer features a cryptic scene that led fans to believe a central character might be killed off in the upcoming season.

Viewers were alarmed to see Brady, Jack's fellow Marine who is having trouble adjusting to civilian life, on his knees surrounded by unknown people with blood pouring from his forehead. Considering Brady's questionable connections, it looks like he got mixed up with some terrible criminals who might actually kill him in the new season.

While some fans have hated Brady since he was introduced in Season 1, arguing that his storyline was poorly written and felt like a total bore compared to other characters, no one really wants him dead, especially after he became a little more interesting in Season 4.

'Omg, is Brady going to get killed?! That's what it looks like in that scene. As much as I don't really like him, I definitely don't want him to get killed because I feel like he's having some good character development and he's starting to grow on me,' one fan noted on Reddit.

In any case, we may not even learn the truth about Brady's fate when the first part of Season 5 premieres on September 7. It's likely that Netflix will save that mystery for Season 5 Part 2, set for release on November 30.
